The Greatest Love Bestowed on Us: We Are Free
“There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus.”
— Romans 8:1
From childhood superstitions to well-meaning religious rules, many of us learn to live as though one wrong step could cost us love, peace, or acceptance. We may carry the fear that we have not prayed enough, given enough, served enough, or asked forgiveness often enough. But the gospel tells a different story: in Christ, forgiveness is not something we earn. It is a gift secured by His finished work on the cross.
It is grace.
When Jesus said, “It is finished,” He declared that the debt of sin had been paid. Romans 8:2 says that “the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus” has set us free from the law of sin and death. Our freedom is not permission to keep sinning; it is freedom from condemnation and guilt. Freedom to walk by the Spirit.
Grace Does Not Leave Us Where It Found Us
We still stumble. We still need our Savior. Yet we do not have to live trapped in shame. Under the old covenant, the high priest offered sacrifices repeatedly for forgiveness. Jesus, our great High Priest, fulfilled the Law and offered Himself once for all. Because of Him, we can confess our failures, receive His mercy, and keep moving forward.
When we wander, God does not turn away from us. Like the father who welcomed the prodigal son home and the shepherd who searched for the one lost sheep, He receives the returning heart with open arms (Luke 15:4–7, 11–32).
Jesus Is Our Advocate
1 John 2:1 reminds us that Jesus is our Advocate. When accusations rise—whether from others, from our own memories, or from the enemy—Christ stands for us. The price has already been paid.
Psalm 103:12 says that God has removed our sins “as far as the east is from the west.” That picture is powerful: east and west never meet. God does not hold forgiven sin over us. Through the blood of Jesus, He sees us covered by grace. He sees His Son.
No Condemnation. No Separation.
Romans 8:31 asks, “If God is for us, who can be against us?” The chapter goes on to remind us that Christ died, rose again, sits at the right hand of God, and intercedes for us. Our confidence rests not in our own perfection, but in His completed work and continuing faithfulness.
This is the freedom Christ gives: we are no longer defined by condemnation. Nothing can separate us from His love.
Close your eyes and picture it. Run through the meadows and fields of flowers with Jesus. The Son shining upon you, breathe in deeply, alerting all your senses in the full embodiment of Christ.
A Promise to Carry With You
Romans 8:37-39 “Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Whatever this week holds, remember: God is for you. Jesus intercedes for you. His grace is enough, and His love will not let you go. Let the truth settle into your heart: in Christ, you are forgiven, welcomed, and free.
